Ratskool Re-launched! Off-line research techniques workshop!

Thurs Sept 5th, 7pm

OFF-LINE RESEARCH DEMYSTIFIED: RESEARCH TECHNIQUES WITHOUT THE INTERNET WITH RESIDENT KELLY MCELROY!

Rat Skool is seeking new topics of the strange, the weird, the obscure, the fascinating, the (un)explainable! Join us to submit your topic of a subject you would like to see unpacked, explained, presented, illustrated, or demonstrated!

But this month's Rat Skool is a bit different! We challenge our presenters to not use the internet while researching their topic!  But don't worry if that sounds intimidating, we are here to help!!

Our current resident Kelly McElroy will demonstrate the virtues and techniques for finding what you need off-line! We will explore encyclopedias, atlases, and other print resources, talk about finding subject experts to interview, and experience the joy of information serendipity. You can also schedule a one-on-one research consultation with Kelly -- about your Rat Skool topic or anything else you are investigating.

At the event, we will be drawing new topics for the next Rat Skool! (All are welcome - you do not have to volunteer to present a topic to participate).

The way it works:

-We collect suggestions of interesting topics (anyone can submit!).

-We collect names of people willing to do presentations on random topics.

-We draw a few names and a few topics at random.

-The people selected have a month to research the random topic and do a 5-15minute presentation.

-We have an event with the presentations and the cycle starts again.
