Stage Banter: A Workshop Hosted by current shed resident, Henry Adam Svec Crows Nest, 7:00 pm What does a singer-songwriter do in between songs during a performance? How can such moments be used? What assumptions underlie common approaches to stage banter? This workshop/discussion will explore such questions; we will also do some acting exercises that focus on being “truthful” in the moment (eg. S. Meisner’s “Word Game”). This workshop might be of particular interest to performance artists and songwriters, but everyone is welcome. No experience necessary. Henry Adam Svec writes songs, makes performance art, and works on a PhD at the University of Western Ontario. His bands (Peter Mansbridge and the CBCs, The Boy from ET, and The CFL Sessions) have toured all over Canada, and his recordings are regularly played on CBC Radio. He recently performed in FADO Performance Art Centre’s Emerging Artists Series (2009, Toronto); and this August he will present new work at Eastern Edge's 24-Hour Art Marathon Festival (St. John's). He is the current artist-in-shed at Roberts Street Social Centre.
