Promoting your event
We made a poster of all SOS events and a newsletter listing events with more details, plus we'll send a press release to The Coast and promote the events on our website and our e-mail announcements, but you are encouraged to do your own promotion for your event. Make a poster, make fliers, tell your friends. We made a Facebook event for each event that you can send around - contact Matthew Murray to make any changes to your event. During your event, put a sign on the door saying what's happening right now so people know they're at the right place.
Promoting Roberts Street and other events at your event
During your event, make sure to tell everybody what Roberts Street is and remind them they can donate to us by joining our Fan Club. There will be an information sheet about Fan Club in the zine library that you can read out. Also, there are brochures about Roberts Street shaped like houses in the zine library that you can make available during your event. If your event involves delivering things to people, throw in a brochure. Announce other upcoming fundraising week events, plus candygrams.
Volunteers
You are responsible for recruiting any volunteers you might need. If you would like to ask Anchor Archive open hours volunteers or RS collective volunteers for help, send a request for volunteers message to info at robertsstreet.org. But ask your friends first, since many RS volunteers are already organizing events or helping out.
Supplies
If you need supplies for your event, like food, try to get as much of it for free as possible. Ask businesses for donations. We are getting some gift cards from Sobeys that can be used by event organizers. Otherwise, save your receipts and Roberts Street will reiumburse reasonable supplies costs.
Money
Make sure to collect money from people at your events and encourage people to donate more if they want. However, all fees to participate are suggested and no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Take a minute to announce what Roberts Street is and why donations are important to us.
Noise complaints from neighbours
All of the neighbours have been informed that the fundraising week is happening and invited to participate. We asked them to tell us if it gets too noisy instead of calling the police. If a neighbour comes by during your event to complain about noise, turn down the volume, move people inside if they are outside, and ask everyone to be a bit quieter.
