How to forward e-mail from accounts

To make a e-mail address forward to a gmail account follow these steps:

  1. Log into the gmail account you want to forward to.
  2. Click Settings (top-right of page main gmail page)
  3. Click the Accounts tab.
  4. Under 'Send mail as', click Add another email address you own.  (Note: This is different than Add a mail account you own under 'Get mail from other accounts')
  5. Enter a name (e.g. Anchor Archive Zine Library) and the address you want to forward from (e.g.
  6. Click Next Step »
  7. Click Send Verification
  8. Close the small box, and go back to your inbox.  Since the forwarding address is already set up, you'll receive a message shortly in the inbox called Gmail Confirmation - Send Mail as [forwarding address].  Open that message.
  9. Click the confirmation link in the above message when it arrives.

That's enough to compose mail under the address.  But there's a bit more work to be done.

  1. Head back to your account settings (Settings » Accounts).
  2. Now you'll see [at least] two addresses under 'Sent mail as'.
  3. Look below those addresses at the option that begins 'When receiving a message', and click Reply from the same address the message was sent to.

Now when someone sends mail to the address and you reply to it, your reply address will also be the address. If, on the other hand, someone sends mail to the address your reply address will be your gmail address.  Now there's just one more step, which is optional but which I strongly recommend.

  1. Beside the gmail address it should read default.  Beside the address there should be a link that reads make default.  Click that link.  Now all *new* mail you send from the account will come from the account, while still working seamlessly with the original address!
