A zine outlining the ten-year history of Food not Bombs in Halifax, commenting on organizing tactics and events, with lots of old photos and posters out of the archive. Nostalgic for old FNB-ers, interesting commentary on consensus organizing that could apply to lots of activist and FNB groups. Screenprinted cover too.

Made for a class she was taking but amazing to have and share, this zine compiles writing about being queer and third wave feminism from local Halifax folks. There are articles about zines and feminism, queer screenprinted patches, working in a sex toy shop,, and experience working with women in prison, along with some amazing artwork and layout.

A collection of short, saucy and smart manifestoes. This is an oldie but one of my favorites.

Winter recipes so we can keep up local eating when nothing is growing. An eclectic collection culled from our friend’s recipe books.

These zines are all available for sale, either by mailorder or at the zine library. Some we sell in multiple copies to distros or stores (please ask before ordering bulk copies).

Prices are in either US or Canadian dollars. Please send hidden cash or cheques (made out to Anchor Archive), and yes US 'checks' or cash are okay. Postage is included in the prices of the zines - maybe makes them seem a little steep, but man, postage is expensive. If you stop by, we have these (and more) for sale a bit cheaper. NEWER ZINES

WORDS WITHOUT WALLS: WRITING AND ART BY WOMEN IN PRISON IN NOVA SCOTIA. Books Beyond Bars, Hfx. $12
This book takes contributions from zine copies of WWW, plus many more poems and drawings, and it's all in a lovely little perfectbound book! The poems are amazing and heartbreaking, and there's also an essay about NS women's prisons.

GENTRIFICATION IN HALIFAX'S NORTH END. Capp, Hfx. $3
This zine compiles two essays Capp wrote in the last few years, one about the g-word, and the other about rent control. This is an awesome explanation of the often misunderstood phenonmenon that's ramaging through so many neighbourhoods.

BRAINSICK [a novelette]. Elisha Rubacha, Lanark ON. $12
The first summer the zine library was open, Elisha was one of our most enthusiastic patron, returning stacks of zines every week and taking out more. A few years later, here is her first book.

HOW I GOT OVER MY FEAR OF SPIDERS. Amanda, Hfx. $2
This short illustrated story is a sweet reminder that nothing's as scary as it seems. It was made during the 24 hour zine marathon.

COMING TO VOICE - ZINES - A CUT N' PASTE PEDAGOGICAL TOOL. Julia, DC. $3
Julia worked with an ESL class, and this zine is split between an essay about her experiences (with lots of bell hooks quotes to back her up) and the actual zine made by the kids. After teaching so many zine workshops over they years I'm always intersted in other people's experiences taking zines outside punk and DIY subculture and Julia says it all.

LOG CABIN QUILTING FOR YOU AND ME! Elif, Mtl. $2
This lovely how to zine is a quilt all unto itself, handwritten text and diagrams backed on charming fabric patterns. Elif completed this zine during her residency here at the Anchor Archive, and I was totally hooked after she did a workshop on log cabin quilting. It’s easy, but not that easy, and super fun.

MAKIN’ YO-YOS! Elif, Mtl. $2

Yo yos are strange little gathered pieces of fabric that you can sew together, sew to anything, give to friends, and obsessively make with instructions in this little zine.

SALT & SLUSH 2. Sarah, Hfx. $4
Six years after the first one, S&S is a collection of winter themed recipes, instructions and inspiration. Lots of soups, salads, and main dishes, plus how to brew beer, knit a tea cozy, and can vegetables and fruit. Recipes ranging from vegan and veggie to a couple involving meat. It's a pretty little package, thick full of ideas with a screenprinted cover and bound with yarn.

HOW TO MAKE A SUPER 8 FILM. Hfx, $3
A collaboration between the Anchor Archive and the Atlantic Filmmakers Co-op, this zine was made as a handout for super 8 workshops in schools around the province. It’s helpful for all ages, a great way to get into making small movies, with a history lesson about film and Super 8. This zine is thorough, and covers every step: where to order and process film (in Canada), hints for movie ideas, techniques and tricks when filming, editing, distribution and screening.

MY STORY OF MITCH’S ACCIDENT. Jenn Robertson, London ON, $5.
A heartbreaking story of a good friend being hit by a drunk driver while riding his bike, through the accident and slow recovery. Jennifer writes with passion and insight about something that must be difficult to communicate.
