1) Check out the site!
There's lots of new content on the site and much more coming down the pipes. Check it out! http://halifax.mediacoop.ca/
2) Getting the word out!
Who needs to know about the Halifax Media Co-op? Who should have a Dominion Newspaper in their hands? Who would make a great contributor for the HMC? Please spread the word!
The Halifax Media Co-op is embarking on an outreach campaign to get the word out about the Co-op, what it does and why it's important. Do you know of an organization that might be interested in supporting the HMC? A coffeeshop that should have a subscription to the Dominion? An event that the Media Co-op could table at? A classroom that might be interested in learning more about independent media? An individual who would be key to talk to? A network that would be useful to tap into? Please help us spread the word! Email hillary@mediacoop.ca with any ideas you might have.
3) Needed: PC laptop
The Dominion/Media Co-op is in search of a PC laptop that is able to run our accounting software (it won't run on macs). Do you have an old PC computer that runs Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, Vista or 7. If so, it would be wonderful if you would consider donating it to the Media Co-op. Please let me know if you can help.
4) Media collective for G8 meetings in Halifax
From April 26-28 G8 international development ministers will be meeting in Halifax. A broad spectrum of groups plan to protest these meetings (from labour to environment, to social justice groups to student groups) and the Halifax Media Co-op will be on the ground covering the demonstrations.
Interested in writing? Recording audio/video? Taking photos?
The first meeting for the G8 media collective will be held on Wednesday March 24 at 7pm at Alter Egos Cafe, 2193 Gottingen. Everyone is welcome. Please email if you're able to come or if you'd like to be involved but are unable to make that meeting.
5) Regular HMC meetings for contributors and organizers
The Halifax Media Co-op is now holding regular meetings for those who would like to get (more) involved in the HMC. The next meeting will be Tuesday March 23 at 7pm at Alter Egos Cafe, 2193 Gottingen. Please email if you're able to come or if you'd like to be involved but are unable to make that meeting.
6) What would you like to see covered?
We are always looking for your ideas of stories in need of coverage in HRM. Please add your ideas here: http://halifax.mediacoop.ca/group/232/discuss/2430
7) Please becoming a sustaining member
The Media Co-op is member owned and funded. We ask those who value the work of the Media Co-op and would like to support grassroots journalism in Halifax and across the country to please become a sustaining member. If you are already a sustaining member, thanks for helping keep independent media alive in Canada!
Enjoy the sun!
