1) Dinner and a Movie - Sunday March 7, 6pm – Boys In The Band
This Sunday's movie is the 1970 film version of the Mart Crowley play, Boys In The Band, what your presenters, Gabe and Dan, think of as several firsts: it had several gay characters (previous movies had just one, who almost invariably committed suicide) it had gay guys interacting more or less normally with each other, and it was the first to be *about* a queer topic. The movie was important to both of us in our teen years, illustrating the existence of a diverse queer community.
The movie is about a birthday party, and we'll serve the food featured in the movie -- Caesar salad, lasagne (both meat-y and -less) and birthday cake. Also, we'll serve the unusual drink mentioned in the movie. To quote Emory, "Oh Mary, Don't Ask!"
The movie will be presented at 6:00pm and admission is $8.
As always, space is limited so please RSVP to mailto: semaphorecinema@gmail.com .
