This fourth installment offers a chance to peruse and purchase new and unusual works from: Red Fox Press (Ireland), Perro Verlag (Mayne Island, BC), Instant Coffee (Toronto), Islands Fold (Victoria), Valerie Salez (Halifax), Anteism Publishing (Victoria), Garity Chapman (Halifax), Andrew McLaren (Halifax), Adam O’Reilly (Halifax), T.R. Ericsson (New York), Stacy Ho (Toronto), and Dustin Wilson (Montreal) and many more.
During the opening reception of this event, Eyelevel Gallery will be celebrating the launch of our Online Archive & 35th Anniversary Catalogue featuring a selection of printed matter ephemera from the vaults of our underground archive system.
We also have the dream team of Will van der Meulen and Daniel Espeset. These two locals are collaborating in the love of forgotten print technology for Eyelevel and Roberts Street Social Centre’s Printed Matter Residency. An open studio, lectures, workshops and a launch on March Twenty-Seventh at seven o’clock are to be expected.
In the spirit of ERI 4, The Narrows will be launching a brand new winter and spring season, hosting new work by Eyelevel’s only Chris Foster. This exhibition will run alongside the main space exhibition from February 26 – March 28, 2010. Please contact thenarrowsgallery@gmail.com for information on The Narrows.

Eyelevel Gallery is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to the presentation, development and promotion of contemporary art. Through a range of programming initiatives such as exhibitions, performances, special projects, and workshops, Eyelevel Gallery has provided a forum for the discussion and education of contemporary visual art for 35 years. Eyelevel Gallery runs a small, non-profit book-store specializing in contemporary artist books, zines, stationary, audio art, exhibition catalogues, and multiples. Works for the book-store are selected through Gallery's biennial exhibition Eyelevel Reshelving Initiative and also through a regular call for submissions.
The Roberts Street Social Centre is a collection of projects dedicated to providing free or affordable access to independent and alternative media, art, and education. It is a space for people to come together to share skills, knowledge, and resources. We support critical, creative projects and inspire social change through DIY (do it yourself), non-hierarchical, and consensus-based approaches. We aim to be active in our communities by collaborating with other groups and projects. We strive to be inclusive, aware of barriers and discrimination, and welcoming to all ages.
The Eyelevel Gallery thanks Roberts Street Social Centre and the Dalhousie University Archives for the partnership and support for these projects.
6) CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - RANTERS, RAVERS & RACONTEURS
Storytelling is a great talent, one that we are letting slip. This region has a rich background not only of oral history and formal narratives, but also of the kitchen table rant-and-rave. Storytelling at the root is a face-to-face interaction, an aspect of contemporary culture that is being outmoded by lightning fast, stripped down forms of communication. How can we attempt to have a sense of community if we forget how to communicate at the most fundamental levels?
Ranters, Ravers & Raconteurs is seeking work that engages critically with contemporary society, offering a variety of views and media. The work need not be bound by narrative, text or literature because there are many ways to rethink the activity of storytelling. Interpretations and liberties welcomed.
Eyelevel Gallery seeks submissions of new and engaging work for its annual Y-Level emerging artists show. This exhibition is open to students in their final year of undergraduate studies and recent undergraduates (up to one year post-graduation) from the Atlantic Provinces: New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
Submissions must be received by Friday, March 26, 2010 at 5pm. Email or fax submissions will not be considered. Please include the following:
>a project description outlining the concept, scale and media
of proposed work (250 words max)
>CV, with current contact info
>artist statement (250 words max)
>10 digital images (jpgs- low res) or applicable multimedia on CD or DVD
>self-addressed stamped envelope, if you want material returned
Submissions must be mailed or dropped off to:
