1) ABC letter writing – Friday February 12, 7-9pm
Come join the Halifax Anarchist Black Cross in writing letters to political prisoners.  On Friday, February 12th from 7-9pm we will be at the Anchor Archive (5684 Robert Street) writing to our incarcerated comrades.  Just bring yourselves, we have pens, envelopes, stamps, snacks, everything you need to sit down and write to our elders in struggle.  We will also be distributing a letter to stop the abuse of Oso Blanco (Byron Shane Chubbuck) an indigenous warrior who is currently doing time for a number of political bank expropriations throughout the American South West.   Soldiarity.  Halifax ABC.

2) Tandemonium -Friday February 12th – 10pm
Cycle-inspired dance party! Burrito bike on-site and Propeller beer for sale.
Also launch of a brand new zine - the Breveteur: Cycling in and around Halifax.
$5 at the door. North Street Church.


3) Teatime Art Days – Poetry – Saturday February 13 – 3-6pm

This Saturday we'll do poetry stuff, but of course also whatever people are interested in accomplishing.

4) Dinner and a Movie Cinema Paradiso”- Sunday February 14, 6pm
On Valentine's Day Sam and Dave will be preparing dinner and showing a film at the Robert Street Social Centre. They will be preparing homemade pasta, with a light appetizer to start. Tiramisu will be served for dessert! Wine will be provided.
The movie we are showing is Cinema Paradiso "A filmmaker recalls his childhood, when he fell in love with the movies at his village's theater and formed a deep friendship with the theater's projectionist." It is great.
All are welcome! If you are afraid or allergic to dairy please let me know and we will arrange something special and delicious for you!

5) General Meeting - Monday February 15, 7pm
A big old quarterly meeting to talk about everything that's going on. Committee reports, special projects, big decisions, that kind of thing. Everyone is welcome to attend - it's a good introduction to what we do and how we work and what you might want to get involved doing!

Ever wonder how you can help out the center? We are in the process of cataloguing all our zines in a digital catalogue. Come by anytime for some tea, popcorn, and zine cataloguing..

7) Pet Calendar 2010 for sale.
Admire Action Pet stars for every month, February through December 2010. It's colour copied and pretty cute.

8) We are now accepting applications for our 2010 Roberts Street Residency Program! (DUE ON MONDAY!!!!!!!!)

Residencies run seasonally at The Roberts Street Social Centre, from June to September each year. Residencies are two weeks long, and

residents are provided with space, equipment and support for their project as well as living space in a garden shed in the backyard of

the Centre. We are interested in proposals for projects that embody the same sort of do-it-yourself spirit as the Social Centre, and that

contribute in some way to the community and/or the space. For more information and an application please email

9) Call for residents: Eyelevel Gallery Local Printed Matter Residency

Deadline: February 8th, 2010. Must be received before 5:00 pm.
Duration: 3 Weeks, March 8th-27th, 2010

The Eyelevel Gallery is seeking local artists interested in fulfilling a 3-week residency in Halifax, Nova Scotia at the Eyelevel Gallery (in conjuction with the Roberts Street Social Center and InkStorm Screenprinting). The artist in residence will develop work based in printed matter (books, posters, multiples, prints, postcards, zines) with access to screenprinting and bookbinding resources provided by Inkstorm Screenprinting and the Anchor Archive Zine Library while occupying the Eyelevel Gallery as an open studio. The residency will culminate in a reception on March 27th at Eyelevel Gallery during which the resulting work will be exhibited and/or launched alongside Eyelevel Re-shelving Initiative 4.

The Artist in Residence will be expected to be present at the open studio for a minimum of 25 hours per week and should be willing to work in an environment where the public and members of the gallery are present, and to deliver an artists talk and workshop during the residency.

Eyelevel Gallery will provide:

-$1750 artist fee
-$250 presentation and workshop fee
-$500 materials fee

12) Roberts Street FAN CLUB! we are asking zine lovers, screenprinting enthusiasts, local or visiting artists, and popular education devotees to demonstrate their support financially. Community support is essential for the Roberts Street Social Centre to continue to grow and thrive. Contributions of any amount are greatly appreciated.
