3) Dinner and a Movie - Sunday January 31, 6pm – “Kikujiro”
Ben Gallagher presents "Kikujiro," the story of seven-year-old Masao, who recruits Kikujiro, the aging gangster next door, to help him track down his absent mother. A series of vignettes from their quest, criss-crossing the Japanese countryside, it's a blend of the eccentric, the hilarious and the mysterious in a heartwarming and heartbreaking way. Ultimately, this movie displays the calm humour we all need to triumph over adversity, and is a triumphantly gentle piece of filmmaking. Food beforehand is a selection of vegetarian dishes from Zen temples, both nutritious and unusual.
