Audio Visual Improvisation Lab with Amanda Dawn Christie
Saturday, May 23, 12PM-2PM @ North St. Church
Learn to improvise with visuals as well as with sounds! Visual improvisers will learn the basics of 16mm film projector operation and loop improvisation. They will have a chance to play with special prisms, mirrors, and lenses to send images all around the room. Musicians who are interested in exploring multisensory aspects of their work are invited to come along and improvise sonically with the
visuals. No instruments or instruction will be provided on the audio end of things; its just a chance to experiment in the realm of collaborating and improvising on a cross sensory platform. Amanda Dawn Christie is an interdisciplinary artist working with experimental film, contemporary dance, and electroacoustic sound design. She currently works at the Faucet Media Arts Centre in Sackville, New Brunswick.

Improvisational Music with Garth Hardy
Monday May 25, 7pm @ Roberts Street Social Centre
Bring your instrument(s) of choice to a discussion about the state of
improvised music, types of improv, strategies for success, and doomed
performances. The workshop will also entail workshopping an improvised score for Dziga Vertov's classic silent film, Man With A Movie Camera. Following one more rehearsal during the week, the film with live score will be screened on Friday, May 29th. Interested participants are encouraged to bring an instrument that they are comfortable playing - rudimentary music skills (in both reading and performing) are strongly recommended for the second component of this workshop. Garth is a Winnipeg based artist and musician in town for the Roberts Street Residency Program.
